A joyous, happy birthday to this wonderful man who is my love, a kind friend, an adoring father, and when I see him with the grandkids, it melts my heart. He want to go to the seaside today for a lovely lunch and ice creams - he is still a big kid at heart and makes me laugh so much. Love you šŸ’‹
We are in Bouzigues on the shore of l’etang du Thau where as far as I can see there are oyster and mussel beds. These little beauties are ā€˜les bebes’ the babies fixed to the their ropes ready to go and grow in the lake. So tiny its remarkable ā¤ļø
French apricots • vanilla • basil • white wine. Poach. Eat with vanilla ice cream alongside great friends on a hot summers evening in Provence. Could life be better? Thank you @jayneaustinprice x
Sunshine on a plate made by my lovely friend @jayneaustinprice on our arrival at their gorgeous home near Brignoles. What a welcome feast especially after camping for a week and some haphazard cooking from me. There’s a whole medley of taste, texture, fragrant spices, juicey tomatoes, avocado and chorizo, lime creme fraiche dressing.
In an age when so much that we buy is mass produced, how mesmerising it was to stumble across this tiny workshop in Naples old town. It was the noise of the hammer as he diligently crimped the edges of the drum destined to be used for pizza fritta, that first caught my attention as we walked . All the beautiful baking implements you can see are made by their hands.
If I have to work while away, I can think of worse places to write. A borrowed table and chair set up outside our bedroom. It’s so quiet but I can still hear the splashing in the pool and the children laughing - sometimes crying, but that’s usually when they have to get out of the pool - a cuppa or a bottle of water is delivered periodically. It is a lovely place to be. #casapoggio #sabinaitaly #lazio #writerscorner #hotsummerdays
With temperatures over 30 degrees it had to be salads. I’d be happy with these every though. Sunshine food for sure ā¤ļø #salads #summertime #italy #casapoggio #familytime #metime - sometimes 🤣
My most favourite salad, Panzanella. It never tastes as good as when I make it here in Italy, maybe it’s the tomatoes? Who knows, but I love it. The recipe is below for those who asked.
We arrived safely to Casa Poggio yesterday , to a place we love, and have been longing to return to last night. All the family arrived safely too, (no thanks to chaos at Manchester airport) I can hear the little ones running around upstairs. Blessings.
Love that we are here in Emilia Romano flying the flag for Yorkshire @yorkshirepasta
Going through pics for the new book and found this, the only image of my grandmother cooking. She was a professional cook making her way ā€˜in-serviceā€ from scullery maid to head cook at one of Yorkshires ā€˜grand plies’ I rather not say where, she wasn’t treated too well. She’s a stunner.
Rons new favourite while at celebration lunch for our lovely friend Bengt’s 80th birthday in Stockholm. Skagenrƶra is a classic Swedish dish of fat shrimps, dill and mayo with butter soaked fried bread. Seriously what is not to like?
