Welcome to Lemm on Food. Here’s a little bit about me: Though I am married, I still go by my maiden name, Elaine Lemm (which can be very confusing sometimes). I have been a freelance food writer, author, critic, and recipe developer for over twenty years and, more recently, a food and reviews writer for BBC Good Food. The Press Association voted me one of the top 50 food writers in the UK.
As well as seven years as Food and Wine Editor at Yorkshire Life magazine, I have written for many leading magazines, including Waitrose Food Illustrated and Olive and have an enviable job as a restaurant critic for the Yorkshire Post Saturday Magazine. For five years, I worked for the New York Times Company, writing extensively online about British and Irish Food. Following the sale, by the time to IAC Media, is now a recipe developer, writer and photographer for the world-famous Spruce Eats website and at Food 52.
I am so proud to have written four books, including the acclaimed Great Book of Yorkshire Pudding, which is in its fourth edition and sells worldwide. My latest book, More Than Yorkshire Puddings, won the best Regional Cookbook award in the UK and came second in the world at the Gourmand Cookbook Awards.
The book is a feast of over 100 recipes, stories, and my photography. It is a personal book about my culinary journey from Yorkshire, with its exciting and immensely varied foods thanks to its magnificent coastline, cities, and countryside, to living and working in many countries worldwide.
We recently moved up near the North Yorkshire Moors into the Howardian Hills, and my husband and I are busy renovating an old house. I love nothing better than having the kids, grandkids, friends and family here, and our best times are always around the dinner table or outside at the barbecue. For downtime, I love my yoga, I’m a keen sculptor and love nothing more than pottering about in the garden and long walks in this glorious Yorkshire landscape.
