We are approaching the end of @TheGFW2021 challenge and today’s word is legs. What has that word to do with the image of little beauty I caught on my iPhone the other day? Say hello to my granddaughter Peggy, who is known as “Peggy Legs” in this house. It’s a game the we started to play from when she was quite small, if I said Peggy Legs to her, it meant I was going to come and tickle her and she would giggle, and it kind of stuck the way these things do. She’s heart-meltingly lovely and such a character, and I am so so lucky that I get to look after once every two weeks as part of our childcare bubble, so important for the little ones and so good for me too. #TheGFW2021 #TheGFW25
Hero is the word today. My hero, my husband. There are so many reasons why he is; he’s a wonderful partner and support, an ace father and granddad. He’s a great friend to me and our friends. He’s someone you can count on. This is not the best pic of him, but sums up his thoughtfulness. He is not a chef. On my big birthday he knew taking me out for a slap up dinner wouldn’t cut it. So he rang Andrew Pern at the Michelin starred, Star Inn, (he didn’t know him though Andrew and I know each professionally) and asked if he would teach him how to cook a super special dinner for me. Andrew was amazing and without me knowing a thing on my birthday thanks to their collaboration I came home to the surprise of the family gathered together, a beautifully decorated house and the most amazing dinner. The image of Ron, piping bag in hand decorating the pudding will for me (and the kids) remain with us forever. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #TheGFW2021 #TheGFW25
My happy place! With my husband between lockdowns out hiking, stopping after a challenging climb, miles from anywhere, muddy boots, no make up and stunning scenery. A sneaky pic taken by him but I know how I felt at that moment. Bliss. Today’s photo challenge is self portrait, err not my favourite of the month but I do like this pic, so I decided to not dunk out #TheGFW2021 #TheGFW24
Our challenge word today is vegetable and I choose the round salad radish, so often forgotten but they are wonderful not simply for the colour, texture and immense peppery flavour they brings to a salad or my favourite Radis au Beurre but by roasting you create an altogether different experience. The radish softens, and slightly collapses, and the fiery taste mellows down leaving a sweet, softer taste and texture. Great as a nibble, toss into a salad or pasta and rather good with poultry. Easy to do, roll in a couple tablespoons of good olive oil, sprinkle of sea salt, roast for 20 minutes at 180C. Serve with lemon wedges and fresh parsley #TheGFW2021 #TheGFW22
A rather big word today, animal, there’s one that can spin in many directions. My thoughts went immediately to sustainability, welfare, climate change, the planet.... then I thought chill out woman. Even I get sick of hearing my own voice sometimes. So instead here’s my favourite little chap from last year. Happily wandering around totally aware of his cuteness factor and more than happy to pose for a mad woman leaping out of the car and telling him how gorgeous he is 💁♀️ I especially love how he’s the same colour as the landscape. #TheGFW2021 #TheGFW20
No I have not started baking sourdough. I went through that phase a few years ago, then @haxbybakehousedeli opened up and #starkfarm here in the village. So I’ve done my time on that one, I can sit back and just eat it now. Which now gives me time for other things, like the day spent learning from the amazing photographer and teacher @matt_inwood on taking images with an iPhone (other brands are available) and the intricacies and power of Instagram. Husband came home from shopping part way through so I nicked the bread as subject matter, then I ate a few slices. A great way to spend a miserable, cold(ish) day. Hope you have had as much fun? .
Staple is our word today. I could have put so many items up but this sauce is my absolute go-to staple and one I make at least once a week and I turn into soups, pasta, curry base, in dal, stews, baby food, tart fillings on and on and on. When there was a shortage of tinned toms last year I was panicking. #TheGFW2021 #TheGFW20
Today’s word Lockdown. That has many abiding memories. During the first one, I found sleep so difficult, the world felt strange, frightening but I so remember this moment, stepping outside, barefoot at 4.30 am and listening to the birds, my feet wet through and totally getting how beautiful the world looked and how fortunate I was to witness it. #TheGFW2021 #thegfw18
