A most wonderful weekend with this gorgeous couple, proud to say, my stepson and my new daughter in law and beautiful bride Emily. A wedding to remember especially their vows to each other made me (and Ron a little) cry. Here’s the cake for those who asked. When he picked up a sword to cut it, I nearly fainted wondering if the dowels would take the onslaught. I’m not a cake baker but it was a privilege and honour to do it. We love them both so much and delighted they found each other. I almost managed to crop out my naughty son in law @gibbo_z for his photo bomb 🤣🤣 #truelove #lovemyfamily
No edit, no tweaks just Mother Nature in full show off mode tonight. I looked out of the window at home at the end of my yoga class and was awe-struck. It’s been several beautiful days, and looking at this sky, tomorrow will be a belter. Fingers crossed it lasts for the big wedding on Saturday @emilyhaythornthwaite 🙏🙏🙏
Hard day at work, Christmas cheese tasting with @paxtonscheese and this is my favourite. Cremoso from Spain. Slice the top off, dip a spoon in and drizzle onto crusty bread or an oatcake and eat. Just delicious. This is heading into my Christmas festivities and any other excuse I can find to eat it. They all were good except one, for me. Loving the care that goes into selecting these cheeses, supporting small producers, working with them so we get to eat fab cheese. Hats off to the producers and all the wonderful cheesemongers out there including Paxtons. We love you for finding cheeses for us to enjoy.
The sky last night is my leveller. I stand in awe of it, the size and magnificence. Deep breaths in the midst of the turmoil that is life in 2021 looking at this and for me, feels better. I don’t know why, it just does. #nofilter
What a wonderful present was given to me this weekend from a friend’s quails. I’m in love with them. Now, what to make or shall I just stare at them. Nature is wonderful.
It’s been 18 months since we set the table for our gang of best friends to eat together. We were missing two special friends @jayneaustinprice who we longed for to join us, but one day soon. We coupled this with a bit of work on my part as I am tasting natural and biodynamic wines for a commission I am working on - yeah, tough I know. This was a starter plate of meats, and all sorts of crudités to give a good basis for the wines. Missing from the pic is @haxbybakehousedeli baguette, Arancini and fresh melon to work those taste buds. Following this is a huge pot of husbands secret chilli , then a board of great cheeses to give those Orange wines a good run for their money. 12 wines, great friends and a table of good, I feel totally and utterly blessed.🙏
There’s something magical and moving as I watch Harry respond and interact with our first trip together to the @hepworthwakefield today. This little person loved choosing, drawing and photographing his favourites. I’m so proud of him. It was a very special day. 16 wonderful years and it still feels like we met yesterday ❤️
Been feeling out of sorts for a day or two. Time for some uncomplicated nourishment which is when I go to the pantry and pull out the Dahl. Here it’s Urad, with turmeric, ginger, garlic, tomatoes, onions, veg masala, lemon juice, natural yoghurt - I can’t remember what else went in, anything I fancied in the spice drawer. Had this for my dinner last night and I immediately felt better. Speeded up the cooking using a @sageappliancesuk Slo-Go-Pro pressure cooking setting which cut the cooking time down to 40 minutes. ❤️
Simple, fresh, tasty. Words I like when I’m overtired and I need something on the table sharpish as I suffer from low-blood sugar and known to get hangry quite quickly. This suits the season and another tick in the recipe testing box for More Than Yorkshire Puddings @greatnorthernbooks. Another good days work and a good dinner ✔️❤️
The joy of recipe testing for the book is the revisiting of forgotten recipes! I love this cauliflower chowder, my favourite veg, it tastes awesome, is easy money to make and looks so pretty. Fun day ahead ❤️ the original recipe is over on Spruce Eats but the updated reworked is being saved for the book.
Recipe testing for a new book is a long, long job as any food writer will tell you. It’s also rewarding too, especially when you get to the fun stuff, like ice cream. There was a major disaster yesterday with vanilla ice cream between squares of Moggy cake. After it had slid off the cake several times it was time to move on. Ice cream and a summer peach compote instead. 🤣
